The great Dupont forest; one of my favourite forests in the eastern side of the US for sure. When traveling, it all comes down to what season you are experiencing while being outdoors. Forests are beautiful at most times of the year, but autumn carries a special essence to it.
Welcome to the great Dupont Forest where many dreamy locations exist therein. It is comprised of more than 48km2 in total. Over 10,000 acres, several waterfalls and more than 80 miles of trails make up this great eastern coast forest. My partner and I were able to visit the forest at the end of October. Temperatures back then were at an average of about 60F. I was lucky enough to hike through the Fawn Lake road access. You are greeted with a welcome sign that depicts the existence of 3 main places. These being:
- Fawn Lake
- Lake Julia
- Upper and Lower Bridal Veil Falls
We visited all of them except for the upper portion of Bridal Veils. The hike was comfortable and pleasant. Chipmunks hiding here and there, leaves scrambling nicely; the typical fall ambient. Our first main stop was the gorgeous Fawn Lake. We were able to get there after about 20 minutes of picturing the main road that leads to it. No one was there and it amounted to a very personal and almost spiritual experience. We definitely felt in tune with nature at that moment.
About Lake Julia
It is important to notice that the forest is adequate for many different sports. Fawn Lake is a very tranquil spot to hang around at. We were able to take plenty of fabulous pictures worthy of delight. The trees reflected in the water added to a very intimate ambient. Afterwards, we began walking again through Conservation Road which hosts many smaller roads which deviate into other routes and also lead directly into an small airstrip for. After several other minutes, you finally arrive at Lake Julia.
Lake Julia is a larger lake with a beautiful overall scenery. The smell of trees, the morning breeze and the sensational colours make up for a great moment. The lake is algo characterized by its pristine appeal. Some houses are located nearby pertaining to the local staff.
The forest is full of several routes to discover. I absolutely enjoy forests which offer waterfalls, hiking routes and scrummy lakes. Dupont forest is adequate for people of all ages. We were able to walk for more than 3 hours. Although it did feel like a lengthy hike, we were happy to have been able to bring home unique pictures for us to observe and keep as memories from such a tranquil and serene place as the great Dupont Forest. We honestly hope to visit back again; this time, at a later season in order to get a broader experience!
