I personally enjoy discovering places outside of my own country. That is why I have decided to create a short set of at least three articles. These articles will describe, in a compact way, what Pico Bonito, Honduras offers as a superb tourist destination.
For this edition, we will get to realize a summarized aspect of future articles on this great place. Since Honduras is located right at the heart of the whole American continent, expect to enjoy a tropical climate constantly. Hence the possibility of doing tourism at most months of the year. I was lucky enough to get a personalizad tour guide for my visit to Pico Bonito. It was a sunny Sunday and the weather was simply perfect for a good adventure.
Given the fact that Pico Bonito is a huge ecosystem in itself, you can expect to find a huge variety of species of animals, plants, trees and else. As in every new expedition, you always get to learn things. For example, I understood the purpose of an artificial amphibian pool. It is practically a space where you create a habitat for amphibians to lay their eggs and reproduce. It is a pretty nice thing to look at. I embarked on a corridor where I was able to indulge in so many things which I had no idea existed. Firstly, Pico Bonito park measures 275,000 acres of land; pretty spectacular. The tour I opted for goes through the “Jaguar Corridor”.
Variety inside Pico Bonito
It starts off at The Lodge and spa at Pico Bonito; brilliant place. It was fun to watch a pizote (mammal) run by in a hurry at the very start of the tour. As mentioned previously, there is a wide array of animals in and around the park. Some of these include tapirs, pizotes, armadillos and various species of felines, snakes, insects, mammals and birds. The Coloradito and Corinto rivers run through the park. They deliver outstanding viewpoints for beautiful pictures all throughout the corridor. You get to breathe the fresh ambient of the forest full of all kinds of flora. The park features several spectacular sounds provided by the existing fauna. Tucans, monkeys and several insects make you feel like you’re in the center of wilderness!
I must confess that it is a very proactive hike. You get to go up forest steps, observational decks and do some diving. The fitter you are, the easier it will be to go about. Adventures like these are honestly very worthy. Having a personal encounter with nature feels as an enhancement to the senses. Nature is truly one of the most genuine things that life offers.
This V1.0 article is intended to give a brief explanation of what the Pico Bonito experience provides. For our next articles, we will look at more detailed aspects of what the “Jaguar corridor” and nearby places are all about! Be sure to stay tuned for more.
